Other Clubs and Organizations

Arizona

Of course, we're not the only club that watches anime in the state of Arizona. In fact, we're not even the anime club at our own university! So here are links to the websites of other clubs and organizations in the state of Arizona dealing with anime and fandom in general. By the way, most of the time, showings are not restricted to club members, but contact the relevant organizations for more details.

CURRENTLY DOWNASU Japanese Animation Club. Also known as the JAC, this is the actual anime club here at Arizona State University. We're not actually stealing their thunder by running the reviews website - after all, we predate them by several years, but as there is quite a bit of crossover between THEM and JAC members (and officers), we support them fully. JAC meets every other Tuesday in the MU, and their anime meetings are on the following Friday in the Computing Commons Auditorium.

Tucson Animation Screening Society. One of the most well-known and established anime clubs in the United States, TASS is based at the University of Arizona, our friendly southern rival. Their extensive website features articles, schedules, and forums. Schedules for public screenings and members-only screenings are available directly on the website.

CURRENTLY DOWNUniversity of the Anime Otaku. Based at Phoenix's branch of the DeVry Institute of Technology, they are intent on exposing more people to anime in the Phoenix area, much like the JAC and THEM in the East Valley. Meetings are every other Saturday, between 11:30 am and 4:30 pm.

Outside Arizona

And we have contact with other organizations outside Arizona as well, so feel free to drop by these places too, if you should happen to be around the areas mentioned.

Neo Anime. The premier anime club for Cal Poly Pomona, in Southern California.

Anime Club of Columbia. The anime club of Columbia University, in the heart of New York City. Teresa Copeland, a THEM regular during winter and summer breaks, is in fact, an officer of this organization.

Conventions

These are the conventions that THEM members will be attending, in various capacities (from spectator to committee member). If you're in the area at the time of these conventions and wish to contact us, this is a great way to meet us in person.

LepreCon 27. May 18-20, 2001, Scottsdale, AZ. A local science-fiction/fantasy convention with an artistic emphasis, which draws guests and spectators from around the Southwest US. THEM will be moderating several panels here concerning anime, manga, video games, and other topics, and anime is shown most hours of the day. Guests of Honor include artist Stephen Hickman and writer Michael Stackpole.

Anime Expo 2001 (AX10). July 5-8, 2001, Long Beach, CA. One of the largest anime-centered conventions in North America, which we have largely boycotted in the past, but regularly brings in guests of honor from Japan, and is a good meetingplace for anime fans from around the world. There is a chance that we may in fact attend this convention this year, though we'll of course be spectators like everyone else. (As if we're that famous.) Guests of Honor have not yet been announced.

San Diego Comic-Con International (Comic-Con 31). July 19-22, 2001, San Diego, CA. THEM frequently attends this, one of the largest pop-colture conventions in the world, and THEM members frequently volunteer behind the scenes here. With so much to see, with guests from around the world, and constant programming, this is a must-see convention for any fan of anything!.

CopperCon 21. September 7-9, 2001, Scottsdale, AZ. A local science-fiction/fantasy convention with a literary emphasis. THEM will be moderating anime and game-related panels here, and anime is also shown here as well. Guests of Honor include writers Julian May and Diana Gabaldon.
