The EYES of Mars

Synopsis

On the planet Mars, a civilization of humans thrives...well, sorta. Humans have done what humans always do, and Mars is polluted beyond belief. A secret academy of girls to develop psi-powers thrives underground (really thrives, actually), and one of the girls holds the key to liberating humans from their sorry state.

Review

Well, it tries. Not hard enough, though.

The plot had some strong promise (if you can put up with the endless spouting of Eastern philosophy and nature worship), and featured some interesting characters. Unfortunately, it quickly fizzles towards the end. The ending...geez! It's been a long time since I've seen an ending quite that bad. It ruins the entire movie.

Animation and art were decent; nothing memorable. The dubbing was of reasonable quality, and the soundtrack was utterly forgettable. Nothing too choppy or smooth, just mediocre. I saw this one on the Sci-Fi channel, and it doesn't look like any major anime companies have decided to pick up the rights. That's why no pictures are on this page.
Not that it matters, though.

All in all, a highly mediocre anime. For something better along the same lines, you might want to check out Gall Force: Eternal Story.

You won't be bored, but you won't be enthralled, either.Raphael See

Recommended Audience: Not much objectionable. A bit of tension near the end, and the psi powers might spook tiny kids. It would be good for the family if it weren't so darn dull.
