Super Deformed Double Feature

Synopsis

Gall Force, Bubblegum Crisis, and Genesis Survivor Gaiarth are parodied by the shows' creators, Youmex, in this pair of OAVs done in the cutesy, squashed-bodied, big-headed "super-deformed" style seen in shows like Dragon Half.

Review

Who better to make fun of a popular show than the people who know it best? That seems to have been the reasoning behind the creation of Ten Little Gall Force and Scramble Wars, and it works like a charm.

Ten Little Gall Force paints our lovely female crew as a gaggle of bumbling, incompetent divas constantly clamoring for attention. Watch as the director's search for "realism" inflicts bodily injury on his cast (especially Catty *zot*). Watch the silly outtakes as simple stunts become hilarious accidents. Watch as Elza gets called an "old lady"!!! It's all really silly, and it works.

Scramble Wars continues the craziness, pitting characters from Gall Force, Bubblegum Crisis, and Genesis Survivor Gaiarth against each other in a cross-country race much in the style of Hanna Barbera's Wacky Races (only with a LOT more collateral damage). All the worst and most pathetic traits of each character is highlighted to comic effect. (And the Gaiarth entry is simply plain wrong.) Well, as to who wins...well, that's a secret, of course, but it's fun, fun stuff for fans of the series involved, with clever jokes and absolutely strange juxtapositions (I mean, the Starleaf as a giant Land Cruiser?) And if you thought Nene was cute in BGC, just wait 'til you see her here! ^_^ (In fact, everyone's cute! Even the Boomers!)

Parody is a true art, and these people have mastered it. For a double-dose of laughs, try Super-Deformed Double Feature. You may just laugh yourself clean off your seat. (It helps, of course, to have seen the series parodied first.)

If you loved (or *hated*) any one of these series, you'll be in for a real treat. Anyone else should pass this up, though.Carlos/Giancarla Ross

Recommended Audience: Purely for those who've seen the aforementioned series. There is slapstick violence (of course) and some nudity that prevent the youngest audiences from watching this, though it's all played for laughs. Most kiddies wouldn't get the jokes anyway.
